Owaisi Defends Hijab-Clad PM Dream, Says Constitution Allows It

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday responded strongly to criticism over his statement expressing a dream of seeing a hijab-clad woman become India’s Prime Minister. He questioned whether the Constitution of India prevents citizens from imagining and working towards such aspirations. Owaisi said opposing such a dream reflects a mindset that undermines democratic values and alleged that critics were echoing the “language of Pakistan.” Stressing constitutional freedoms, he maintained that dreaming and striving for representation is a fundamental right in a democracy. His remarks have reignited political debate, drawing mixed reactions from various parties, with supporters viewing it as a call for inclusivity and detractors accusing him of courting controversy.
