Kerala governor Arif Mohammad Khan said that chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan's remarks on triple talaq are his personal opinion. "This is not an issue currently. It was settled back in 2019 when the law [to criminalise triple talaq] was introduced," he said. Khan said that due to the law, we have seen cases of triple talaq reduce by nearly 90%. The Kerala governor said that triple talaq is not even mentioned in Quran, adding that the practice has been considered a criminal act since the beginning. Kerala CM Vijayan had lashed out at the Centre over the triple talaq law, questioning why the practice of instant divorce among Muslims was "criminalised when divorces happen in all religions".
