Pro-Iran resistance groups claim they shot down the US military's KC-135 Stratotanker refueling aircraft with a missile over western Iraq on March 12 during a mission linked to Operation Epic Fury. It also claimed that all crew members on board were killed. However, the United States Central Command has denied that the crash was caused by hostile or friendly fire and says rescue and recovery teams were immediately deployed to the crash site. Officials have not yet confirmed the number of crew members or their condition. The KC-135 — a key aerial refueling aircraft used by the United States Air Force and built by Boeing — has been a backbone of U.S. long-range air operations for more than six decades.
