Germany Says India-China Must Shape Ties, Backs India As Asia Partner While Calling China Rival

Germany has sent a clear message: India is its partner, China its rival. During talks with S. Jaishankar in New Delhi, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said India and China must shape their own relationship, but stressed Berlin’s view that India represents Asia for Germany while China poses challenges in trade, security, and technology. From Indo-Pacific security to defending the rules-based order, Germany sees India as an anchor of stability while preparing to counter Beijing’s assertiveness.
