Barring a few trees and saplings, the area adjoining the dense natural forest near Mahasindhu village in Deogarh, Odisha, looks sparse. This near-bald patch is one of the state forest department's plantation sites — hundreds of trees and shrubs were cleared" from here to to plant a few species—mostly acacia, teak and chakunda.
