Centre announces merger of telecom firms BSNL and MTNL

The Union government has announced the merger of state-owned telecom firms BSNL and MTNL. The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting chaired by PM Narendra Modi. In an effort to pare losses of the companies, a revival package was also announced that includes monetising assets and offering VRS to employees.
