Iran has hailed Russia after it vetoed in the United Nations Security Council a resolution aimed at boosting security in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, calling the veto a “responsible decision” against what Tehran described as a one-sided U.S. proposal. According to the Iranian state media, Araghchi stressed that safe passage through Hormuz depended on coordination with Iran’s armed forces and U.S. compliance with its commitments. The development comes ahead of crucial Pakistan-brokered ceasefire talks in Islamabad.
