The Maratha outfits have called for Maharashtra bandh on 9th August. They are demanding reservation for the community in government jobs and education. Though the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has promised quota to the community by November this year. The Fadnavis government has made an elaborate security arrangements all over the state including Mumbai in the wake of protests. Last month Maratha groups had held protests which had turned violent in some parts of Maharashtra. Maratha community constitutes approximately 30 per cent of Maharashtra’s entire population. They are politically influential and demanding 16 per cent reservation. Last month's protest witnessed violence, roadblocks, arson, attacks on police in areas of western Maharashtra, Marathwada, Thane and Navi Mumbai.
