Kerala govt issues orange alert after water level rises in Idukki dam

As heavy rains continue to lash Kerala, the water level in the Idukki reservoir rose to 2395.38 at 10am on July 31. An orange alert was issued the previous night when the water level reached 2395 feet, meaning residents had to be ready for any emergency. The full reservoir level at Idukki is 2403 feet. The state government has put the army, navy, air force and coast guard on alert. A red alert will be issued if the water level reaches 2400 level, and people will be evacuated. Thereafter, the gates of the Cherithoni dam will be opened.
