Chennai: Painted earthen pots in demand ahead of Pongal festival

The highlight of the Pongal festival is cooking sweetened rice in clay pots and for this, people buy earthen pots ahead of the festival. But this year, colourfully painted and decorated are in huge demand, although they are priced higher. The pots are first painted white using limestone. Then, the next day, attractive designs are drawn on the pots which are then filled with brigth colours.
