"Bold character has more space for acting than playing a positive one," says Nakshatra on playing a kind-hearted money lender in 'Valli Thirumanam’

Actress Nakshathra, popularly known as Venilla of Yaradi Nee Mohini, is seen in a completely different avatar in the newly launched show ‘Valli Thirumanam’ as Valli. From Venilla, a soft-spoken and innocent girl to Valli a warm-hearted money lender, trying to make her place in the patriarchal world; Nakshatra's transformation has left the fans all impressed. In an exclusive conversation with ETimes TV, the actress spoke candidly about this transformation.

"A bold character has more space for acting than a positive one"

"When I heard the storyline of ‘Valli Thirumanam’, I couldn't stop admiring its beauty. Valli was something new and challenging. And it was quite the opposite to the role I played earlier- Vennil. While listening to the story, I kept imagining actress Meera Jasmine from the Sanda Kozhi movie the whole time. Finding a female character that is as interesting and comical as Valli in a movie might be easier. But in the Telly world, it's rare, and I wanted to seize the opportunity," she says.

I’m more of ‘Valli’ than ‘Vennila’ in my life

The actress shared, she is more like Valli in real life. "Looking at my portrayal as Vennila, an innocent and spiritual girl, all my friends make fun of the way I was portrayed on-screen and who I am in real life. Even if I wear jeans, everybody is surprised to see their Vennila in a modern dress. But those who know me well, know that I’m more of a Valli than a Vennila in real life," she adds.

Have you ever been a ‘Valli’ in real life?

"Yes, I have. Whenever I bargained with ‘auto driver Annas' I used to be Valli. Earlier, I didn't even speak much Tamil. But now ‘Valli’ has made me articulate well. Once, my mom took a ride with me in Chennai and was amazed by my negotiation skills. I am bold long before Valli," she adds.

Kollam or Chennai or Theni?

"Kollam is my land; the land that gave me birth. Chennai is the city that gave me my name. Actress Nakshathra is recognised by people because of what Chennai blessed me with. Theni is the place where I am now in my career or the place that is going to give me a bright future," shares Nakshatra.

"I want a role that doesn’t nod to everything"

When quizzed about the role the actress expects in the future, she says, "Whenever a female character is bold, it is often shown as a negative character. A positive character, no matter how bold it is, a pinch of pliability is expected. I want to do more roles that don’t nod to everything. I would love to see more female roles that inspire the audience and society altogether."
