Times when Nia Sharma followed extreme diets to get a desired look

Actress Nia Sharma has often raised the temperatures on the internet with her bold pictures. She is seen sharing sultry photographs showing off her slim figure and is often praised for her flat abs. Off late, she has grabbed eyeballs for her stunning figure in her latest music video ‘Phoonk Le’. Post the release of her song, Nia opened up about the fad diets she followed to maintain her figure for the song. She also disclosed to ETimes TV about suffering major breakdowns during the shoot and a lot more. This is not the first time that the Naagin actress has openly talked about bizarre eating habits. Here’s a look at all kinds of fad diets, weight gain issues and a few more revelations made by Nia over the years:

Nia stopped eating and went overboard with her workouts

Nia Sharma shared that shooting for the item number gave her a hard time owing to the nervousness she had to pull it off the right way. She shared that not being a pro at dancing and maintaining the physique required for the song was quite a task for her. The actress revealed about going overboard with her diet by stopping to eat anything and working out more. Nia revealed that she used to rehearse for 3 hours straight. She told ETimes TV: “I was very nervous so I just started working hard on the song. I started cycling more, working out more, I stopped eating. I started rehearsing for 3 hours when I was asked to do only for 1 hour. I was nervous, under pressure because I did not know if I’ll be able to pull off such a song.”

Surviving just on Quinoa

Nia revealed that she went out of her way to bring out the best in her to do justice to the song. Speaking about how she prepared for the song, the actress shared that she stayed hungry throughout to keep her belly flat. She shared that she used to rehearse, workout, cycle and survive the day almost empty stomach. She opened up about following a fad diet to stay in shape. She said, “I just didn’t diet, I would like to tell you, I had stopped eating to look fit for the song.” Nia further talked about eating too little to not let anything affect her physique. She shared, “I remember eating only Quinoa and very little food for seven days.”

Nia opens up about the consequences of her fad diet

The Naagin actress disclosed about having major meltdowns before and during the shoot of the song. As she talked about prepping up for it with all she had 7 days ahead of the shoot, Nia also shared that she fainted during rehearsals and had fever throughout the shoot. While talking about how much she exerted herself for the song, she shared, “There were times when I would faint also during rehearsals but I did not give up, I just went all out and I am very happy with the outcome of the song. From workout, cycling I did everything so that I do full justice to the project. In fact, I also had fever for a day while shooting because of the exertion but I wanted the song to come out nicely.”

Suffering meltdowns due to image issues

While opening up about the efforts she put in, Nia also opened up about having image issues which even made her suffer major emotional meltdowns. “I got psyched out and I had a meltdown and I cried also before the song because I had a feeling that I will not be able to do anything, will I look nice so there was much tension in my mind. I had many meltdown moments when I finally did this song. I had jitters, shivers and I’ve gone through all those phases,” she shared.

Overcoming the body image issues

Nia has also spoken about suffering from body image issues for years. She shared that she has bloating problem and get too cautious about it. She added that at times it gets difficult for her to cope up with it. She shared that very little food or even water can bloat her which has been a serious issue for her. Nia further explained that it has taken years for her to accept that she cannot have a flat belly 365 days a year.

Going without eating for days

In 2021, Nia created waves on the internet with one of her ravishing bikini picture series. She received massive appreciation for the pictures and was praised for her fitness. Later in an interview with an online portal, she said that she was ‘fooling people’ in name of a perfect bikini body. She said that she starved herself for almost 2 days to get a flat belly. Nia added that she reached the sets for the shoot empty stomach too and called this whole scenario an achievement.

Nia’s fret and obsession with weight gain

Previously in an interview with BT, Nia had candidly talked about her fear of gaining weight. The Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai actress shared, “I have suffered from the fear of getting out of shape. I was obsessed with my weight and if I put on even one kilo, I would start fretting and fuming over it. So much so, that my conversations with my friends were all about my weight worries.”

Practising deliberately throwing up

In the same interview, Nia divulged that her obsession with weight-watching made her practice deliberate throwing up. She shared how it affected her mentally and physically. Nia added that it was her friends Arjun Bijlani and Ravi Dubey who helped her give up on this practice. “While I never had cheat days and followed a strict diet, there were times when I just let myself go and overindulged in food. And when I ate a lot, I would feel extremely guilty. So, I would try to throw up what I ate. This was a practice for many years, but I now realise that it is one of the worst things I did to myself. My friends Arjun (Bijlani) and Ravi (Dubey) sat me down and explained that this was not healthy. Even when I suffered from slight bloating, I would throw up deliberately. Finally, it left me feeling very weak,” she said.

Surviving days on protein shakes

Nia also spoke about how her fear of gaining weight made her get into bizarre and unhealthy eating habits. She shared, “The fear of gaining weight led me to skip my lunches and dinners. I used to only have protein shakes and work out like mad.”
