Rubina Dilaik receiving hate messages for gaining weight to Rashami Desai questioned for showing cleavage; times when TV celebs were fat-shamed

Being in the showbiz is no easy feat. Every move and appearance is captured by the camera and the eyes of the audience. As per the fans, the celebrities are bound to look a certain way - flawless. However, what is a person without a flaw? Female actors, too, have their low phases where they don't feel emotionally or mentally well-prepared to stick to their daily lifestyle and take a break. But the scrutiny around their lives never stops. Rubina Dilaik, who recovered from COVID-19, has put on weight. The actress was fat-shamed and was sent hate messages. This isn't the first time, but there have been many such instances in the past when TV actors have been fat-shamed. Let's take a look: (All Photos - Instagram)

Rubina Dilaik

Bigg Boss 14 winner and television actress Rubina Dilaik put on excess weight after recovering from COVID-19. The actress received hate messages and she was disappointed to learn that she is only being appreciated for her beauty but not talent. Rubina penned a note that read: "Dear well Wishers/ PSEUDO FANS , I am observing that my weight gain is bothering you! You are relentlessly sending hate mails and messages , you don’t see my worth if I don’t hire a PR or if I don’t tip paps for spotting … you are threatening to leave fandoms coz I am fat now , I don’t wear good (designer) clothes and I am not working hard to get BIG projects …. Well , I am indeed disappointed that , FOR YOU my physical appearance is far more important than my talent and my commitment to my work ….. But I have a GOOD NEWS for you all…. ITS MY LIFE and it has phases , and you too are a phase of my life ! ……PS :- I respect my fans, so don’t call yourself my FAN !" Jaan Kumar Sanu, Shardul Pandit, Stebin Ben and many others came out in her support.

Hina Khan

Hina Khan is a fitness enthusiast but after the demise of her father Aslam Khan earlier this year, the actress took it a little slow, and prioritised her mental health over physical health. The actress shared a photo of herself from her workout session and penned her thoughts. She wrote, "I had put on some kilos in these months for obvious reasons and I really did not pay attention to how many kilos I put on... My mental health was way more important and I just wanted to be, wanted to do things that make me happy. Sometimes let yourself be, enjoy the little things, do what you like without thinking much about what people will say or how m I looking... After all one needs to be in the right frame of mind to do anything in life... And I chose mental health, my well-being, over my physical appearance... Now here I am, back in action." Hina also wrote: "Work in progress." After this post, Hina entered the Bigg Boss 15 house and former contestant Afsana Khan commented on the actress' weight. She had said, "Aap mujhe thode mote lag rahe ho, waise to aap bahut slim ho (You are looking fat to me though you are very slim)."

Rashami Desai

The Bigg Boss 13 contestant, who will be seen as a wild card entrant in the 15th season, has often been trolled for her weight and body type. Speaking about being fat-shamed, Rashami Desai had exclusively told ETimes TV, "I have been trolled a lot of times for my size, make-up, clothes, hair, for my low cleavage. I have a habit of fluctuating when it comes to weight. Sometimes I gain or lose weight, so they have a problem with that too. There are times when they don't like my clothes or dance, so they comment on that too. I want to tell these faceless people it is my body, my choice I will do what I feel is right. I have earned it."

Himanshi Khurana

Punjabi actress and Bigg Boss 13 contestant Himanshi Khurana has also been trolled for being on the heavier side. The actress has received several nasty comments, and in one of her exclusive interviews with ETimes TV, the actress shared that she has PCOS, and therefore her weight keeps fluctuating. Himanshi had said, "I have been trolled a lot on social media. Before and after Bigg Boss 13. I have been body shamed a lot. I have PCOS, whoever doesn't understand it, please go and surf on the internet. Most of the girls go through it. People who know about it will relate with me. During PCOS, your body weight keeps fluctuating. Sometimes you lose so much weight and sometimes you gain a lot of weight. My blood pressure also fluctuates a lot. My BP levels sometimes drop so much that I have to take oxygen for three hours. My manager panics when I don't respond or get up. My entire team makes sure to keep me away from my phone when I am at home, they try to keep me distracted."

Vahbiz Dorabjee

Vahbiz Dorabjee has lost weight and advocates body positivity through her posts on social media. The actress had once posted a picture in a bikini, and was called out for her "thunder thighs." Vahbiz, in an interview with BT spoke about it and said that such comments weakened her confidence. "I have accepted the fact that everyone can’t have a thin bone structure and I am a well-endowed woman. But not all women will have the strength to fight back. I know it is important to be fit, but sometimes, your metabolism does not respond the way you want it to. I hit the gym daily, but at the end of the day, I will look a certain way and today, I am happy about it. A few years ago I gained weight due to a health condition. When I went for auditions, the makers would tell me that I needed to lose weight. Whenever I wore swimsuits, I was told I had thunder thighs and so should avoid one. If you are plump people call you names, which can be demotivating. I’ve broken down many times and lost my confidence," said Vahbiz.
