#Rewind2021: Pearl V Puri accused of allegedly molesting a minor to Nisha Rawal-Karan Mehra's marital discord; TV controversies that shook everyone

A lot has happened in this year that has either broken or repaired people and situations. However, certain things blew out of proportion for obvious reasons and found themselves mired in controversies. Nisha Rawal levied some serious allegations against estranged husband Karan Mehra. She accused him of having an extramarital affair and of domestic abuse. Nisha had also called for a press conference where she showed the bruises on her head and claimed Karan of hurting her physically. Karan, on the other hand, said that Nisha had created the entire scene to portray him wrongly and extract a large amount as alimony. However, Nisha has stated that she only wants her son Kavish's custody and doesn't want any alimony. "I don’t want any alimony. What will he provide me with that I haven’t given him? We built everything together. I started earning at a very young age and supported him throughout even before he became a part of Yeh Rishta. I have done so much work and whoever I collaborated with will vouch for the fact that Karan was in charge of the commercials," the actress told BT.

Actor Pearl Puri was arrested on June 4 for alleged molestation of a minor girl. The alleged rape incident for which Pearl was arrested took place in 2019 during the shoot of his television show, Bepanah Pyaarr. The girl is the daughter of an actor, who was Pearl's co-star. The actor received support from his industry friends, fans and well-wishers and was later released on bail. After being released from prison, Pearl penned a note for those who supported him and shared that he too, was going through personal pain as he'd lost his grandmother and his mom was undergoing cancer treatment around that time.

Amit Kumar, son of legendary singer Kishore Kumar was invited to Indian Idol 12 to judge the contestants for a special episode, where they paid an ode to his father and legendary singer. After the show, Amit Kumar revealed that he did not like the performances of the contestants but was forced by the makers to praise the contestants. This statement by Amit attracted several repercussions. In an interview with ETimes TV, Amit Kumar said that he didn’t enjoy the episode and praised the contestants only for the sake of the show. His statement took everyone by shock and following it came a few other statements by some other popular faces of singing reality shows and the music industry. Abhijeet Sawant, Sonu Nigam, Salim Merchant, Sunidhi Chauhan and many others spoke up on the fake praise in reality shows.

Indian Idol 12 host Aditya Narayan’s inappropriate remark targeting Alibaug's residents put them in deep trouble. He was accused of demeaning the people of Alibaug and the channel, along with Aditya, was asked to issue an apology by MNS (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) leader Raj Thackerey Following the rage, Aditya issued a video apology on social media too. Another actress, Yuvika Chaudhary was arrested for using a casteist slur in one of the videos she posted online. She was booked under the SC/ST Act and was later granted interim bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Speaking about it, she'd told BT, "Six months ago too I had said that I didn’t use the word for any one and I didn’t even know the meaning of it. I can never do such a thing. But now since it has happened, I can only apologize as much as I can." Taarak Mehta fame Munmun Dutta also had to face severe backlash from the netizens for using a casteist slur in her video. The actress issued a public apology that read: "This is in reference to a video I posted yesterday wherein one word used by me has been misinterpreted. It was never said with the intent of insult, intimidate, humiliate or hurt anyone’s feelings. Because of my language barrier, I was genuinely misinformed about the meaning of the word. Once I was made aware of it meaning I immediately took the part down. I sincerely would like to apologize to every single person who has been unintentionally hurt by the usage of the word and I sincerely regret for the same (sic)"

Shweta Tiwari and estranged husband Abhinav Kohli were mired in legal battle for a few years over their son, Reyaansh Kohli. Abhinav claimed that Shweta is not a dutiful mother and questioned her for leaving Reyaansh behind and participating in Khatron Ke Khiladi 11. As per court's order, Shweta has been granted custody of Reyaansh and Abhinav will be allowed to meet him with certain rules and regulations.

Nora Fatehi and Terence Lewis share a great chemistry and bond with each other. Nora Fatehi acted as a guest judge for Malaika Arora on the reality dance show, India's Best Dancer when the latter tested positive of COVID-19. During those times, Terence was accused of touching Nora inappropriately on stage in a viral video. However, Nora rubbished it and supported Terence by calling it a clear act of "morphing" and "photoshopping".

Shilpa Shinde quit the show Gangs of Filmistan before its premiere and stated that she had a "problem" with Sunil Grover grabbing more screen time. Shilpa revealed that she had already shared her concern with the producers and the creative team but despite that she wasn't heard. "I will raise my voice because after doing so much of work and working so hard, I have to stand in the background in the entire act. Not just this, in this pandemic, we are shooting for 12-15 hours. I am talking about it now so that people can't say later why I didn't speak up earlier. The producers should understand and value their actors. Neither is the script ready nor do they have everything planned. The shift starts at morning 7 and we pack up at 11 in the night. You can't exploit actors. We aren't labourers," the actress had told ETimes TV.

Shilpa Shetty went missing from judging the reality dance show, Super Dancer Chapter 4 after her businessman husband, Raj Kundra, was arrested by the Mumbai police. Raj was accused of distributing and producing pornographic content to various applications. Raj Kundra, is now out on bail after 2 months and said that he is just being made a "scapegoat" by certain investigators. However, after a few days of his arrest, Shilpa kept a brave foot forward and resumed work.
