Poonam Preet returns to TV after eight years with Hui Gumm Yaadein: Ek Doctor, Do Zindagiyaan
After we reported about Gulki Joshi’s return to television after three years with Hui Gumm Yaadein: Ek Doctor, Do Zindagiyaan, we have now learnt of another comeback. Poonam Preet, who was last seen in Naamkarann, is returning to television after eight years with the same show.
Speaking about her character, she says, “I play Ishita Mehta, Dr Dev’s sister, a role portrayed by Iqbal Khan. She’s emotionally driven and deeply attached to her husband, which often puts her in conflict between her marriage and her own family. Ishita isn’t negative. She’s layered, vulnerable and very human. That grey space is what makes her interesting to portray.”
For Poonam, however, this does not feel like a conventional comeback. “For me, it’s not really a comeback. I was always around, just consciously taking time to work on myself as a person and as an actor. Sometimes stepping back helps you grow internally, observe life more closely and return with more depth.”
She reveals that the break was also shaped by personal priorities. “I went through some health challenges during this phase, so I chose to prioritise my well-being and preparation. I was waiting for a role that truly excites me, and when this came along, it felt right to take it up. I believe growth never stops. Even now, I’m working towards becoming my fittest and best version, both physically and creatively.”
Reflecting on what the pause taught her, the actress, who was seen in a cameo appearance in Ufff Yeh Siyapaa, adds, “The break taught me patience and perspective. I understood myself better, and that naturally deepens your craft. Today, I’m more grounded, more aware and creatively stronger than before.”
Hui Gumm Yaadein: Ek Doctor, Do Zindagiyaan is the Indian adaptation of the globally acclaimed Italian series DOC, which has been successfully remade in several countries. The show explores themes of second chances, identity and emotional resilience.
