Gaurav Khanna talks about marriage, career and recent rumours of quitting his show Anupamaa
Gaurav Khanna has become a household name thanks to his character Anuj Kapadia in the TV show Anupamaa. The actor has been receiving a lot of love for his role. 'There are bound to be difficulties in a marriage because no two people are similar to each other'
Gaurav is married to actress Akansha Chamola for the past 6 years. Talking about the bond they share, he says "There are bound to be difficulties in a marriage because no two people are similar to each other. But that’s what makes it fun. One has to work around these things and come to a point unanimously. People who manage to do it lead a happy married life. That’s what my wife Akanksha and I do. We are different from each other, but we work towards things together. It’s like balancing a seesaw.”
Their wedding celebrations
The couple got married in November 2016 in a beautiful ceremony that took place in Gaurav’s hometown, Kanpur. The wedding celebrations lasted for three days and both Gaurav and Akanksha even today recount those moments when they became husband and wife.
'A lot of nuances of Anuj are in me'
One question Gaurav is often asked is how similar he is to his character Anuj in real life. He shares, "Lot of nuances of Anuj are in me. That was the first reason why I got interested in doing this role. Anuj is a fictional character, he is very hopeful and believes in the perfect life, almost like a fairy tale. To say that I am fully like Anuj would be wrong but there are a lot of similarities."
' I am fully committed to Anupamaa'
Anupamaa viewers have been predicting that Anuj Kapadia will quit the show soon. One of the reasons for this is that Gaurav’s screen time has reduced on the show. This topic has been trending online for many days. And now Gaurav has put the rumours to rest. “I will just say that I am fully committed to the show," he says.
'Rarely does an actor get an opportunity to play an iconic role on TV'
Talking about the screen time being reduced, he says that doesn’t bother him. “I have been in the industry for a long time, and I feel this show is different, and I am lucky to be part of it,” he says, adding, “Once or twice in a lifetime does an actor get an opportunity to play an iconic role on TV and I am thankful for that.”
'The audience gave my character a lot of love which I wasn’t expecting'
It’s been nine months since Gaurav joined the show. Initially, he was a bit apprehensive. He shares, “Generally, it is difficult to enter a show which is ongoing.” But everything fell into place well for him. “The audience gave my character the same love, which I wasn’t expecting, and I am thankful for it," he says.
