Playing a character like Mahi is not easy, but Spreha Chatterjee has done a great job in Anupamaa, where she is honest and emotionally driven. Her performance has added depth to the story over time, and now that the show has witnessed a leap, the actress is entering a whole new phase of her character.
Recalling her first reaction to the recent leap, Spreha shared that the change came as a surprise, but it also excited her as an actor. She said, “When I got to know that Mahi's character is going to take such a drastic turn after the leap, I was surprised, but I was very excited.” She understood early on that this would be a complete transformation from what viewers had seen so far.

What made the transition even more meaningful for her was the strength that the new version of Mahi carries. “The idea of Mahi evolving into someone who questions, resists, stands up for herself, and is now financially independent felt really empowering to me,” she said, adding that “empowering” perfectly describes her initial feeling.
However, along with excitement came a strong sense of responsibility. Spreha admitted that portraying such a layered shift requires careful handling. “To show such a transformation with emotional depth and honesty is very important,” she explained.
She also shared that a bit of nervousness was natural, considering the expectations that come with such a major turn in the storyline.
Talking about her approach, she said, “I always want to give my best, and I just want whatever we are trying to portray comes across exactly the way we intend it to, 100%.” For Spreha, this phase is not just about change, but about doing justice to the character’s emotional journey.
Explaining how different Mahi is now, the actress highlighted the growth in her character. “The post-leap character of Mahi gives a very strong message that if you’ve made a mistake, it’s not the end of the world,” she said. According to her, Mahi’s journey is about realisation, acceptance, and the courage to correct oneself.
She further added, “Before the leap, Mahi was blindly in love and used to justify Gautam’s actions. But now, she has realised her worth.” This shift has made Mahi more confident and fearless.
Today, Mahi stands as someone who is no longer afraid to speak up. As Spreha puts it, “She is very strong now. She has her own identity and is not afraid of anyone. She only wants to stand for what is right.”
