Navjot Singh Sidhu is set to return to Kapil Sharma's show after a five-year absence. A recent teaser for The Great Indian Kapil Show revealed that Sidhu will appear as a guest alongside his wife, Navjot Kaur Sidhu, and cricketer Harbhajan Singh and his wife, Geeta Basra. Fans are intrigued and excited. However, many people are questioning why Sidhu departed the show in the first place. The reason lies in the controversy surrounding his statements concerning the Pulwama incident in 2019.

On February 14, 2019, a terror assault in Pulwama, Jammu & Kashmir killed 40 CRPF troopers. Sidhu, a popular personality on The Kapil Sharma Show at the time, condemned the incident. However, his following remarks sparked a widespread outcry. Sidhu stated, "It (the terror attack) is a cowardly and dastardly act and I condemn it firmly. Violence is always condemnable and those who did it must be punished."

He then added, "For a handful of people, can you blame the entire nation and can you blame an individual?" This statement was interpreted as insensitive, prompting widespread requests for his removal from the show.

Amid the uproar, allegations surfaced that Sidhu had been dismissed from The Kapil Sharma Show and replaced by Archana Puran Singh. Although the show's producers and the broadcasting channel did not formally comment on the move, sources claimed that the controversy over Sidhu's words caused his departure.

It was reported by Indian Express, "His remarks have not been taken kindly by most. Also, the channel and the show were getting dragged into an unwanted controversy. This is when the team amicably decided that Navjot make a distance from the show. The team has already shot a couple of episodes with Archana."

Sidhu was caught off guard by the news of his termination. In a video broadcast on X, he acknowledged his surprise and stated that he had not received formal notification of his removal. He stated that he had missed a few shoots due to his responsibilities to the Vidhan Sabha and was unaware of any permanent departure from the show. Sidhu made it abundantly clear: "If it is regarding my statement, I will stick to what I have been saying yesterday, today, and ever tomorrow."




Archana Puran Singh eventually replaced Sidhu as a regular cast member on the show. Her presence has since been vital to the show's dynamic. However, Sidhu's imminent appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show has revived speculation about his relationship with the show. The latest promo promises a makeover for Archana that would make her look like Sidhu. It is later established that Sidhu is only making a guest appearance and will not be returning permanently.
