Sarah was one of the first people, along with many others, who came forward to report the sexual assault to the authorities. She and Laila fought to have the cases of many other women dealt with. These names are pseudonyms used for the real people affected by the crime to protect their identities. Harriet Wistrich is the solicitor who fought Sarah, Laila, and another woman’s case in court when they all decided to sue the authorities for not taking their complaints seriously.
At the time, Philippa Kaufmann was a KC (King’s counsel) at the time who was one of the main people fighting for the women who had been targeted by Warboys. Carrie Symonds is a media consultant and Boris Johnson’s wife, who narrowly escaped Warboys in her youth before anything could happen.
Premise of ‘Believe Me’
The four-part series is based on the story of the John Worboys case. The official description of the show reads: “Haunting true crime drama following the victims of 'black cab rapist' John Worboys as they take on the authorities who failed them in a fight for justice. Sarah is given a drugged drink by a cab driver. She is certain she has been raped. After months of feeling disbelieved by the police, her case is dropped. He is free to attack again.”
Where to watch ‘Believe Me’
The TV series is available to watch on ITVX in the UK. The series is also airing on ITV1, with the first and second episode already aired on May 10 and May 11, while the other two episodes will air on May 16 and May 17.
