2019 in review: A quick rewind of major events of Bengali TV

From actors Sandipta Sen and Rahul Banerjee’s comeback as a pair to Ankita Bhattacharyya winning ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’, the year 2019 has been quite eventful. Not only that, the daily dosage of entertainment got affected when the actors and technicians of a few shows went on strike alleging huge payment dues from the producer’s side. The shooting of many popular daily soaps like 'Ami Sirajer Begum', 'Rani Rashmoni', 'Mahaprabhu Sree Chaitanya' and 'Debi Chowdhurani' reportedly stalled as the actors, technicians and vendors went on a strike demanding their due payments. They alleged that the producer is yet to pay their dues and TDS. Due to strike on several occasions, the telecast of these shows reportedly got affected. A number of incidents of television actors getting harassed in public took place this year. A lead television actress was reportedly physically harassed by an app-cab driver on her way to the shoot. Her father later rescued her. She lodged a police complaint against the driver and the latter got arrested. In another incident, actor Jeetu Kamal was heckled by two men who were allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The daily soap 'Bijoyini' was launched in December 2018 with two new faces. Lekha Chatterjee and Imtiaz Haque made their debut with this show, which also starred Anjana Basu. But the daily soap couldn't do wonders on the TRP charts. Finally, the lead actors were changed almost overnight. Rudrajit Mukherjee and Swastika Dutta replaced Imtiaz and Lekha.
