The kingdom has created a list of countries under red zone in an effort to curb the spread of the virus and its new variants. An official stated that, "Anyone who is proven to be involved will be subject to legal accountability and heavy penalties upon their return, and will be banned from travel for three years".
The official also said that a number of Saudi citizens, who were allowed to travel abroad in May without prior permission, had violated travel regulations. Given the current situation, the Saudi Arabia government has banned travel to or transit in several countries including India, Vietnam, Argentina, Ethiopia, Lebanon, Brazil, Egypt, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Pakistan, South Africa, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
The official also said that the Ministry of Interior has stressed that citizens will be banned from travelling directly or via another country to these states, or any other that has yet to control the pandemic, or where the new strains have spread.
On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia reported 1379 new Coronavirus cases resulting in a total number of 520,774 positive cases and 8189 deaths till date.
