Mumbai airport issues advisory asking travellers to reach early at the airport this holiday season

This is the first holiday season after the COVID-19 pandemic, and people are excited to head off to vacation. In lieu of the same, the Mumbai airport is also facing chaos and congestion in security checks. Now, to make things easy for passengers, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) authorities took to social media to issue an advisory asking passengers travelling during this month to arrive earlier than usual.

In its post, it stated, CSMIA is already witnessing a surge in passenger volume with the onset of the festive season, and the numbers are expected to further rise in the coming weeks. It requested all its passengers to arrive early and allocate additional time for travel related formalities and mandatory security protocol. The airport further stated that passengers travelling internationally are advised to reach the airport at least 3.5 hours prior to their scheduled flight, while those taking domestic flights are advised to reach the designated terminal at least 2.5 hours in advance.

If reports are to go by, the airport issued the advisory to ensure travellers had adequate time to complete all pre-flight formalities. While passengers travelling to international destinations have been asked to arrive at least 3.5 hours prior to their boarding time, the domestic travellers are advised to arrive at least 2.5 hours earlier at the airport.

Revealing details about the advisory, a spokesperson for the CSMIA added that the advisory release is only for the holiday season, as the security and immigration checkpoints are handled by external entities.
