A spokesperson of the Sheikhul Alam International Airport, commonly known as Srinagar airport, took to Twitter and tweeted, "We handled 45 arriving flights with 7,824 passengers and 45 departing flights with 7,190 passengers on March 28."
He further added that a total of 90 flights with 15014 passengers makes it the busiest day in their history and that it is only the beginning of the “Summer Schedule”!
As of now, the current design of the airport in Srinagar can handle around 7000 passengers per day. Soon, construction for a new terminal building will begin to increase the capacity of the airport.
The official further said that the highest figure recorded last time was 13700 passengers a day, and that they now hope to register higher figures in the coming months since it is the beginning of the tourist season in Kashmir.
One of the biggest challenges is managing congestion in the city during the peak season and that the prime concern is to ensure there is no congestion at the airport, said the official.
