Malaysia to reopen borders for fully vaxxed travellers on April 1

Malaysia is all set to reopen its borders for tourism on April 1. On Tuesday, the government of Malaysia made the announcement that it is now ready to welcome fully vaxxed tourists as the nation has finally reached the endemic stage of Coronavirus. By doing this, the country has joined the list of nations removing COVID-19 restrictions and restart tourism.

Apparently, the Southeast Asian country relies immensely on tourism and is a noted beach vacation destination. The nation is prized for its beautiful white-sand beaches and pretty rainforests. It was almost two years back in March 2020 that Malaysia had shut its borders.
Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a press conference said, “The government has decided to open its borders on April 1, 2022. We believe this decision will boost our economy and help revive our ailing tourism sector".

He further informed that travellers would need valid travel documents to enter and exit the country. He said, “Taking into account the Omicron variant, which is still in our country and other countries, there are some mandatory steps for both Malaysians and travellers.”
The country is opening despite recording more than 25000 infections per day in recent weeks but the cases have been mild. Apparently, Malaysia’s neighbouring countries including Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines have also eased travel restrictions and gradually reopened their borders for tourism.

Requirements to enter Malaysia

1) Starting April 1, fully vaccinated travellers can enter the country without quarantine requirements.

2) Fully vaxxed travellers will have to carry their negative RT PCR test result not older than 48 hours along with COVID-19 Rapid Test Kit-Antigen (RTK-Ag) test within 24 hours after arrival.

Talking about the unvaccinated travellers, the Prime Minister said, “For those who are not fully vaccinated, or unable to receive the vaccine due to health reasons, the health minister will detail further Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on this tomorrow.”
