Greece plans to reopen for tourism from May 14

The Greek Government has recently announced that the country will be reopening its borders for tourism on May 14. Further, to ensure that that both the country's citizens and visitors are safe, it will be forming a 5-step plan.

As per the reports, Greece’s 'five lines of defense' strategy to contain the spread of COVID-19 will include the following:

• All visitors will be required to present a COVID-19 test result, or must be fully vaccinated.
• A checking system will be in place at Greece’s airports and borders, where passengers will be selected randomly to undergo a rapid test.
• In case any visitor tests positive for Coronavirus, they will be isolated in a 'quarantine hotel'.
• One must strictly adhere to all COVID-related safety protocols, such as wearing face masks and maintaining adequate social distancing.
• Everyone related to the tourism industry need to be vaccinated. Also, priority needs to be given to the most vulnerable Greek citizens.

Reportedly, the Greek Tourism Ministry has already signed a Green Pass agreement with Israel, and is working on to sign similar agreements with 10 more countries, including the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Canada, Ukraine, Russia, China, China, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
Reports have it that Greece’s willingness to re-open comes in the wake of pressure mounting on the government to save its economy, which is heavily dependent on incoming tourists.
Travelling to Greece will, however, require either negative COVID-19 test results as mentioned above, or need to present some sort of proof for COVID vaccination.
