As per the reports, work has already begun on identifying locations for establishing these parks in all MCD wards; these will also be known as women-only pink-parks. This was announced by Delhi Deputy Mayor Aaley Mohammad Iqbal, who added that the idea is to give a "more comfortable space" to women in the city, apart from providing several other amenities too.
He also added that this idea was taken up during a meeting with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, when he talked about the benefits of such a 'pink park' in his ward, Chandni Mahal, and then suggested that such parks can be set up in all wards.
He elaborated that his idea impressed the Chief Minister and that, later in a meeting of the civic body's horticulture department, he proposed that each ward should have at least one such park.
For your information, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has around 250 wards in its jurisdiction.
Revealing more details about the project, Mr Iqbal also added that a 'pink park' was set up on Mata Sundari Road as a pilot project, where children aged up to 10, and women were allowed to visit. Likewise, a similar model will also be replicated in other wards and these 'pink parks' will come equipped with CCTV cameras, toilets, graffiti on the walls, and gym facilities to offer the women a comfortable horticultural space.
The Delhi Deputy Mayor also added that councillors will identify one park in their respective wards for conversion into the said ‘pink parks'. Many councillors are already in the process of identifying such locations. The initiative is to provide better and safer places for women in public parks and that everyone should come forward to achieve this vision, he added.
