Yogi Adityanath to increase budget allocation for tourism in order to make UP the most preferred destination

In a bid to promote tourism in the state, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is looking to increase the annual budget allocation for tourism in the upcoming financial year for focussing on Kumbh heritage tourism and pilgrimages.
In a meeting of the state’s tourism department, Yogi Adityanath was presented a presentation on Uttar Pradesh’s tourism potential by principal secretary Avneesh Kumar Awasthi.

CM Yogi stressed on the fact that tourism related preparations done for the Kumbh Mela should match the international standards, and also asked the department to ensure that Uttar Pradesh becomes the chief tourism destination in the country.
While the state has already allocated a budget of INR 300 crore for preparations for the Kumbh Mela, the chief minister is himself monitoring the preparations in order to ensure that they are taken care of well.


Yogi has recommended the promotion of the heritage sites and other tourism potentials in Bundelkhand and other parts of eastern UP. Besides, he has also asked the tourism department to improve facilities in ashrams and holy places as they have been known to attract tourists at all times.

According to principal secretary Awasthi, the target of Uttar Pradesh’s tourism department would be to make the state the most preferred tourism destination by the year 2023, and increase the domestic tourist arrivals by 15 percent and foreign tourist arrivals by 10 percent. Besides, he said that the target is also to attract investments in tourism amounting to INR 5,000 crore per year, which would further provide employment to 10 lakh people every year.

Apart from all this, the state’s tourism department is also looking to improve regional connectivity to religious places and convert at least 10 heritage buildings into heritage hotels.
