Hit the snowshoe trails

There are plenty of options if you are looking to do some snowshoeing in Winnipeg and snow covers the ground from about mid November to early April, so there is plenty of time to do just that. Head to Beaudry Provincial Heritage Park where almost 3,000 acres await snowshoers. The frozen Assiniboine River runs through the park and is not used by cross country skiers as the snow is too deep. Be on the lookout for fox and deer prints as you make your way through the beautiful forests. Right in the city is Assiniboine Park which is a fabulous place to try out snowshoeing without leaving the city limits. The summer bike trails known as the monkey trails get transformed into snowshoeing trails in the winter time, and discover them as you wind your way through steep hills and breathtaking scenery. Another great place to snowshoe is Birds Hill Provincial Park, just north of the city. It has four designated trails for snowshoeing, the longest being 3.5km. Don’t worry too much about staying on the trails if you want to explore, snowshoers are encouraged to also trek through the open fields. Listen for the winter Chickadees that call this park home as well keep an eye out for the plenty of deer found here.
