Winnipeg is full of festivals that take place in June and the International Jazz Festival is no exception. One of the oldest festivals, it was started in the year 1990 and continues to be a hit among locals and visitors. Every year over 100 performers flock to this festival, the largest festival all year in Winnipeg and bring with them every kind of jazz music including R&B, roots and blues to indie rock and electronic pop to Latin and more. Opening weekend always features amazing FREE performances at the Old Market Square and it’s a good place for first timers to grab a glimpse of the incredible talent. The CUBE is a popular venue during the event and each night features a different genre of jazz with multiple performers. Tickets for shows can be bought individually or weekend passes can be purchased that provide access to every single venue and show. The jazz labs are another important part of the festival and are open to emerging jazz artists, where they can get advice and attend a variety of workshops, all free!
