Rife with character, it is a trendy and cool place to visit. A trio of sentiments frequently employed when describing Salamanca Place. Easy to see why – since the cluster of dramatic sandstone buildings and former warehouses that dot the precinct, have been converted into galleries, art shops, and cafes. Especially on Saturdays when Salamanca Place turns into an extended living room with the Salamanca market unfolding. If you have even the faintest craving to buy some merino wool socks or local handcrafted jewellery or fancy just chatting with locals over a mug of coffee, then this is the place. Jugglers, musicians and friendly cafes add to the vibe. Pop in also at the Salamanca Arts Centre, which occupies several warehouses. With an active annual programme of performance, visual art, and development programmes, it is another good way to get a sense of the local scene.
