If you want to be on top of the world from Costa Rica, here is where you need to be. Chirripo is the highest point in terms of elevation in Costa Rica, measuring up to roughly 3,820 m above sea-level. Hiking up to Chirripo is not easy, as it will definitely test your skills and concentration, posing challenges with a route which is slippery. But get ready to be rewarded with divine waterfalls on the way. If you manage to catch the sunrise somehow, expect that image to be etched in your memory as the most spectacular sunrise for as long as you can remember. It tends to get very cold and there is no guarantee that it will not rain, hence dress appropriately. Carry a wind cheater or rain suit, and hike up with water and something to eat. Hiring a guide is recommended, and would be much useful. You can enquire about the same at the entrance where you would pay a fee. The hike has pretty much nothing en-route, or at the top. Plan well to descend by noon, so that you are back at the foothill before sunset.
