National Museum of Colombo

Sri Lanka has a history of colonisation and annexations. The upside of the strife is a rich and diverse history; and you can catch a glimpse of that intriguing era at the National Museum of Colombo. From remnants of the Chola dynasty to the European influence, it lives on here.
Built in the style of Italian architecture, the building is as pretty as it gets. And, on the inside, are priceless treasures. Give yourself plenty of time to take in the various centuries in Sri Lankan history. Admire the 17th century royal throne of King Vimaladharmasuriya. Don't miss the Bodhisattva sandals. There are also various arms and armaments dating back to the colonial era, ancient carvings and statues that you just have to stop for and admire, as also paintings that show you what the country looked like in the centuries gone by. It's like taking a trip back in time.
