Situated right opposite St Thomas Church in Thomaskirchhof, the location of the Bach Museum could not have been better. The legendary composer Johann Sebastian Bach became the Choirmaster at St Thomas Church in 1723 and continued in the position till his death in 1750. The beautiful yellow building with white trim showcases Bach’s life and works, done in an interesting and interactive design. Read less

The legendary composer Johann Sebastian Bach became the Choirmaster at St Thomas Church in 1723 and continued in the position till his death in 1750. The beautiful yellow building with white trim showcases Bach’s life and works, done in an interesting and interactive design. The Treasure Room contains a plethora of his original manuscripts, compositions and other rare items. But the rest of the museum has sound pipes to listen to excerpts of his compositions and news articles, a music room lets visitors choose from hundreds of renditions of his compositions and enjoy them via headphones, and a display of exquisite music instruments used during his time.Tickets: Free on first Tuesday of every month.
