Irricana Grain Elevator and Train Playground

Although it is not technically within the city limits, located in Irricana on 1st Ave between 4th and 5th St, it is just such a good playground that it’s absolutely worth the drive. Unfortunately, this playground is not easily accessible and those with limited mobility will not enjoy it here. It is though one of the coolest playgrounds around, featuring a prairie theme complete with a grain elevator, train and dump truck climber. You won’t get anything more Albertan than this park. The small train climber is perfect for the really little ones, with only 2 steps to climb before they are ‘on board’ and enjoying the small slides, steering wheels and bubble windows. The slide is the tallest of all the playgrounds on this list, and inside the grain elevator, kids can climb up and peek out the highest windows. There are stairs, ramps, ladders and more to reach to the top of the climber. The dump truck climber is more suited to the younger ones and the flooring is mainly pea gravel with some straw (for effect). The tunnel slide from the top is just terrific, so don’t be surprised to see some grown-ups making their way down. There are a couple of picnic tables to eat at and plenty of other tables and benches for parents to sit at.
