Free chilled beer in Goa! Know how

Goa has embraced a new green initiative, which every other state should possibly start taking cues from. This new move will, however, fetch you a beer when you are in Goa. All you have to do as per this initiative is to get 20 used cigarette butts or 10 beer bottle caps and exchange them at a pop-up waste bar. Voila! And you get a beer bottle in return.
The prime focus of this initiative is to ensure beach visitors engage in activities that bring about awareness about conservation and environment, and keep the beaches clean. This innovative initiative was kicked off on January 30, when the first-of-its-kind pop-up waste bars were set up at the Zanzibar shack.

This idea has been conceived by Drishti Marine, a private beach management agency which has been roped in by the state tourism ministry to manage the garbage issue in the beaches. Also, a pop-up waste bar can be a win-win concept, which allows visitors to treat it as a hangout area, and also get a drink in exchange for segregated garbage.
Noreen van Holstein, who conceptualised this one-of-a-kind campaign along with Drishti Marine, told the press that this move will result in positive changes as it is a positive event and will attract people, who will be able to contribute to the society and also enjoy a drink by doing so.
Noreen also said that people come to Goa for two things, i.e., beach and bar; this initiative will give them all—free drinks, awareness along with a positive feeling. As per the latest news reports, there are plans for setting up more pop-up waste bars in various venues.

Goa’s beaches attract millions of visitors every year, which eventually raises the concern of waste management. And in the light of this new development, it is expected that responsible tourism is in vogue.
