Goechala Trek

This is the most sought after high altitude trek in Sikkim and carries the charm of experiencing the majesty of Kanchenjunga and Mount Pandim in one frame to the naked eye. The trek starts from Yuksom, a small village at an altitude of 1706 m. It is about 40 km away from Pelling, a major tourist destination in West Sikkim and the second most popular town after the capital city of Gangtok. The trek goes through a maze of blooming rhododendrons in April-May and gives a red carpet welcome to every trekker on this trek. The Dzongri top at an altitude of 4180 m gives a mind blowing 360 degree view of the North Kabru, South Kabru, Kabru Dome, Black Kabru, Kanchenjunga, Frey’s peak, Joupano and Mount Pandim on a clear day. There is a high altitude lake known as Samiti Lake during the course of this trek which actually guides the way to Goechala Pass at close to 16000 ft. The trek goes through Kanchenjunga National Park and provides a lot of opportunity to the trekkers to enjoy the endemic flora and fauna along the trail. The entire trek takes close to 9 days and gives a wonderful insight to the magnanimity of the highest mountain of India which serves as the guardian deity of the people of this region.
