Stretching all the way from Singapore's south-western corner near the National University to Mount Faber and Harbourfront, the oft-elevated walking trail connecting Singapore's Southern Ridges provides a free, natural escape from the urban jungle—without leaving the city. With loads of entry/exit points along the snaking, well-maintained path, hikers can choose their own adventure.

A popular itinerary is to start at Kent Ridge Park and take the 'canopy walk' to Hort Park. Then cross the 'Alexandra arch' to wander among the treetops on the 'forest walk'. Keep going until you hit 'Henderson waves'—time your journey to arrive here around sunset; you'll get great photos at this 36-metre-high vantage point. From there you can take a cable car to Sentosa to spend an evening on the beach, or simply stroll down to VivoCity for a meal at one of the mall's many Harbourfront restaurants.
