Word to the wise: Schedule an early evening visit to these waterfront gardens to see the brilliant Supertree Grove sound and light show.

Opened in June 2012, this UK-designed attraction well and truly cements Singapore's status as the world's premier garden city. Like a seven-star version of cult 1996 flick 'Bio-dome', these parklands feature two state-of-the-art conservatories; the Cloud Forest, housing the world's largest indoor waterfall; and the colourful, Mediterranean-climate Flower Dome, all of which sit amongst several other themed gardens and lakes.
Too beautifully designed to be relegated to the title of eco-amusement park, this 100 ha landscaping project harnesses some commendable sustainability practices—a number of 'supertrees' (concrete pillars with a 'living skin') are embedded with photovoltaic cells to harvest solar energy, whilst others serve as exhaust receptacles for the conservatories. Entry fees to the conservatories are steep, but well worth it.
