Delhi to Kolkata in 5 hours, thanks to the bullet train corridor!

In the wake of the ongoing Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor, another news has trickled in for train travelers from Delhi to Kolkata. A firm commissioned by the Indian Railways has asserted that a bullet train corridor will cut down the travelling time between Delhi and Kolkata to just five hours! This is way lesser than the approximate 17 hours of travel that is the fastest if you take the Rajdhani Express.
A part of the Diamond Quadrilateral project that aims to connect all the four metros of India (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai) by high-speed rail network, this feasibility study covers the whole of 1,513 km long Delhi-Kolkata train route. The estimated cost for this proposed plan is put at a staggering INR 84,000 crores.

The study adds that the route will go through cities like Agra, Lucknow, Varanasi and Patna and once the corridor is commissioned, the travel time for these cities will also see a drastic decline. Lucknow will be a 1 hour 45 minute journey from Delhi, whereas Varanasi will be reached in just 2 hours 45 minutes!

It is important to note that, for now, there is no separate study for Delhi-Varanasi or Delhi-Lucknow route and the final report will be submitted by the end of the year.
