Delhi’s citizens relying on public transport for commuting within the capital are in for a joyride—the Delhi Metro Smart card service is now valid for travelling in DTC buses as well. So from now on, public transport users in select areas can board the DTC bus bound for the desired destination, swipe in their Metro Smart Card to pay the bus fare and enjoy a hassle-free ride.
Planning to introduce this facility was on for about 3 years, and now, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal will launch it for the public. To activate the e-ticketing system, the bus conductor will have to press number 7 on the machine. After that, the conductor will just have to tap the Metro Smart Card on the device to deduct the bus fare.

Henceforth, Delhi will be the inaugural Indian city to launch e-purse travel system. According to news reports, the government wants to spread the common mobility card service across its network of more than 5,000 buses across Delhi. Since, the ridership of DTC buses had decreased drastically in the past 3 years, the introduction of common mobility cards is expected to increase the headcount of commuters choosing bus transport. The government officials also told the press that after the launch of mobility card service, passengers can buy and recharge their metro cards at DTC office counters.
In future, the Delhi government will extend the service to metro feeder buses too.
