More of Corbett heritage is in store. To unravel it, take a ride in the village. Quiet close by the museum, a lane leads up to village that Corbett purchased from Uttarakhand government and later gifted to the villagers before leaving. It is known as Corbett Village or Choti Haldwani, and is yet another place where the legacy of the great man has been preserved. Your guide will instantly take you to see the chaupal–a place where Corbett conducted meetings with the village folks–and tell you stories about Corbett and the village itself. You can climb up (6- 7 stairs) and sit there to get a feel of the place. A gun that Corbett gifted to his assistant Sher Singh Negi (which today is an invaluable possession of latter’s son Trilok Singh) can also be seen here on request. Locals can show you around the village the periphery of which is still guarded by the wall that Corbett constructed to keep the wild animals at bay and protect the crops.Home stays are available here for those interested in experiencing the village life first hand. Visitors can also enquire out for bird watching tours and heritage walks to experience a life closer to nature. Corbett Village was also one of the venues for the 2nd Uttarakhand Spring Bird Festival held from 4–8 Feb, 2015.
