As the flight starts its decent, passengers eagerly start looking from the window; just like the time when babies watch the outside world in awe on their first car ride. Loaded with shutter guns (in the form of cameras!), they mercilessly shoot whatever is in sight of this splendidly beautiful country. The views on offer are submerged reefs (unique to Maldives) and islands with sensational outline of white sand encircled with green water, then green-blue deeper waters and then still deeper turquoise-blue waters merging into Prussian blue space. The amalgamating view is stupefying. It is said that this view can’t be found anywhere else on the planet, and it might as well be true.

Things to know: Tourists are not supposed to carry idols, alcohol, pork meat or any other religious paraphernalia, other than those related to Islam, to Maldives. Tourists are frisked judiciously at the airport while entering and leaving the country
