Set within the beautiful gardens of the Olympic Park, the ArcelorMittal Orbit is becoming one of London’s most-sought-after attractions; especially now that they have opened the Carsten Holler designed slide, created in conjunction with the Orbit’s world famous designer and artist Anish Kapoor. This is the world’s longest and tallest tunnel slide at 584 ft long and 250 ft high; the silver tube, with transparent sections, corkscrews you from the top to bottom in little more than 30 seconds. Holler states “A Slide is somewhere between delight and madness;’ in just a few words this contemporary artist has encapsulated the thrill and bravery needed to give this a try. The design of this towering structure has balance, elegance, and beauty that coils upwards and consists of five main loops of a three dimensional knot that touches the ground at just three points. All of which becomes even more architecturally inspiring as you peep from one of the lift portholes to glimpse it up close. From the 376 ft tall observation deck, you are rewarded by an incredible 360 degree vista of the capital, specifically the regeneration of east London and a partial glimpse into the Olympic stadium. With obligatory padded head, knee, and arm protectors, it is time to plummet to the ground at breath taking speed. You will certainly need a head for heights, but at least when you reach the bottom you have the serenity of the Olympic park to settle the nerves.Refrain from posting comments that are obscene, defamatory or inflammatory, and do not indulge in personal attacks, name calling or inciting hatred against any community.
