89 trekking routes likely to be opened in North Bengal soon

The West Bengal Tourism Department recently sanctioned 89 trekking routes in north Bengal in a move to promote tourism. The move comes as a bid to to attract adventure loving tourists from both India and other countries.
Measures will be taken to ensure safety of visitors opting to go for trekking. Besides Darjeeling, the tourism department has even discovered quite a few trekking routes in Dooars region. As per the news reports, lodges will be available along the routes for the trekkers to get some rest. In fact, these lodges, particularly small cottages, will be providing some of the basic facilities like serving food.

The tourism department is expecting that this move of opening routes around Darjeeling and in Dooars region will help in creating employment opportunities in regions that are socio-economically backward. Also, as most of the trekking routes pass through places that fall under the State Forest Department, the tourism department is holding talks with them to open these as early as possible for trekkers.
Keen on promoting tourism in Bengal, the West Bengal Government is further setting up a tourist hub at Tiger Hill, the ever-popular destination in Darjeeling. The tourism department will make full-fledged staying arrangements here to enable people to enjoy sunrise from the comfort of their balcony, while sipping a hot Darjeeling brew. For this project, 10 cottages will be constructed, whereas the forest department has been entrusted with the task of planting trees and grass around the cottages.
Considering the popularity of Tiger Hill, it is expected that the said project will help the region to witness a major socio-economic development.
