In the Middle Ages and Renaissance, the lands that are now Belgium produced some of the greatest works in all European art. Brussels' Museum of Ancient Art is one of the best places in the world to catch up with this incredible art history, one of five museums that collectively form Brussels' Museum of Fine Art.

There are many famous names among the museum's roster of artists, with works by Bruegel, Rubens and Van Dyck key aspects of the collection. Less well known but especially worth seeking out are the dramatic, intricate paintings of early Flemish painters Rogier Van Der Weyden and Robert Campin, whose work is a reminder of the days when the Flanders region was possibly the wealthiest in all Europe.
