Another backpacker friendly spot, THC Rooftop Bar is kind of like a rasta beach bar, without the beach. Located opposite Tha Pae Gate, the bar calls out to backpackers with its low tables, well-worn mats and triangle pillows on the floor, buckets of booze and DJ beats. Not only is this one of the only roof top bars in Chiang Mai, but also one of the only spots with a nightly DJ (often playing a range of music but usually with a heavier club feel later in the evening―you’ll know its closing time when the lights come on and the music switches to mellow reggae!). THC Rooftop Bar is open till late but during the busy season, it fills up and is easier to get a spot if you go shortly after the sun goes down. Here groups of backpackers become instant friends and drink the night away with SangSom and big bottles of Chang. Whether you’re beginning or ending the night here, you’re sure to make some newfound friends. Come on a Sunday evening after shopping for a while at the weekly Sunday Walking Street to admire the madness from above.
