Vienna’s smallest districtNoteworthy for: Josefstadt may be small, but this is where the power elite of Austrian government often takes up residence.
Josefstadt is a tiny enclave in Vienna, resting just northeast of the city centre. A significant portion of Josefstadt’s small population is comprised of civil servants and university students, due to its proximity to City Hall and the University of Vienna.
Although Josefstadt neighbours many of the city’s most frequented sites, the district in itself is not a primary focus for people coming into the city (unless they live or work here). There are some cafés, small museums and theatres to visit, but the crowds probably won’t overwhelm you like elsewhere in the city. If you’d like to take a break from some of the more hectic areas in the centre, Josefstadt can make for a very pleasant distraction.
