A cup of espresso in Italy is a quintessential cultural experience. Found across the country in bars and cafes, espressos in tiny cups produced from traditional coffee machines is a sight that is very familiar. Now, Italians are campaigning to include it in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
Today, while the world drinks hundreds of varieties of coffee, an original Italian cup of espresso is still the greatest. The modest little drink, is perhaps a lot more sophisticated, and undoubtedly pure. The Italian parliament will discuss the nomination of espresso for the UNESCO list on Tuesday.
The Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO currently has more than 500 different customs, ceremonies, and traditions from across the world. Some of these are reggae music of Jamaica, puppetry of Egypt, and Aabic coffee, which is considered to be a sign of symbol of generosity.
You must visit Cafe Florian when in Venice, Italy. It is the oldest cafe in Italy, and a place where you will probably find the purest cup of espresso. There is no denying that the espresso is a cultural icon of Italy, now we have to wait and see if it does get UNESCO’s approval.
