Starting in 1941 by Vincenzo “Cencio” and Renata De Santis, the aim of this restaurant was that of putting together the best dishes of the Roman cuisine with local folklore, which is often based on popular music filled with lots of swear words! The idea lured the public so much that in 1951 the name was changed to La Parolaccia, literally meaning ‘swear word’. Nowadays, the place is run by the sons of the founders. As the name allows, the environment is very informal and guests are welcome in the typical yet genuine brusqueness of Rome. The menu includes the classic local dishes such as pasta alla carbonara, alla gricia, all’amatriciana and cacio e pepe; saltimbocca alla Romana; coda alla vaccinara and oven-roasted lamb. Prices are reasonable; booking well in advance is highly recommended.
