Pompi is perhaps the most famous coffee shop in Rome. There are several around town, but the main one is in Via Albalonga. The nearest underground station is Re di Roma. Classy interiors and a few tables outside attract a multitude of locals from the office buildings around, who flock there during their break. Pompi serves anything from simple, hearthy meals at lunch time (in the style of self service) to aperitifs in the late afternoon. Yet, it is locally known for its coffees, the wide variety of desserts and the house specialty, the tiramisu. Aside from the traditional flavours, there are other varieties which include a mouth-watering banana tiramisu with chocolate syrup and a chocolate base (in place of the savoiardi and coffee one); a strawberry tiramisu; a hazelnut tiramisu and a pistachio tiramisu where ground pistachios are sprinkled on the top and added to the mascarpone cream.
